the madonna inn in san luis obispo (or slo as the locals call it) is everywhere on instagram. i kept seeing photos of it and told tony we needed to stay there during our trip down the coast (it is kind of spendy, but should be on everyone’s bucket list for at least one night!) the inn was built by a couple back in the 1950s (alex and phyllis madonna), and phyllis must have done most of the decorating, as the hotel is mainly pink. there is also a lot of rock, copper, and some european vibes thrown in. the madonna inn is worth a visit to see the rock wall urinal if nothing else (tony took a photo of it, no i did not enter the men’s bathroom). each room is decorated differently and has a different name. on their website, you can look at photos of every room and it was so hard to decide which one to pick! i wish we would have stayed multiple nights so that i could change rooms and see a different one! i decided on the “merry” room and it was fabulous. the walls are covered in pink glitter, there are chandeliers everywhere, it has a crazy vaulted ceiling, and pink shag carpet. check it out here! the madonna inn is also extremely famous for their bakery, specifically, the pink champagne cake. we ordered a piece from the bar and it was quite spectacular. there was some sort of vendor shortage going on (??) preventing the madonna inn from getting pink chocolate or pink shavings, so our cake was actually just a white champagne cake. obviously still amazing. i have these pink shoes that i hardly ever get to wear. i threw them in the suitcase because i knew they would be perfect for the madonna inn! right behind me is the building that our “merry” room was in. there are several other buildings that are part of the inn too.see what i mean about the white cake? so good!
cake and wine is an appropriate dinner, right? we didn’t actually have a proper meal here, but i heard the many restaurants in the inn are amazing.
the inn is basically a resort, it has a swimming pool, tennis courts, horseback riding, you name it! we spent several hours at the pool and it was pretty gorg! overall, a very fun stay!
