The gallery wall in our living room is finished! I chose this wall because it’s in a walkway, and I knew I didn’t want to put a piece of furniture there. Also, the wall is the perfect size for 9 of these gallery wall frames. When I saw these frames I fell in love with them (thanks Maddi Magill for the rec!) I love the look of the gold frames with the black and white photos too. This whole project turned out great, and I absolutely love it! I couldn’t have done this without my father-in-law. He hung them all (so I can’t take any credit for that!) but I did learn a thing or two along the way! Here are some tips for hanging your gallery wall.
Tips for the Perfect Gallery Wall
1 – Get the correct size frames for your space. This is the 16×20 frame with 11×14 photos inside. I too often see gallery walls with too small of frames (in my opinion). It’s going to cost you a little more to get the bigger frames, but look SO MUCH better.
2 – Hang the frames closer together than you think. These frames are hung 1.5 inches apart. Again, I often see gallery walls (with frames that are too small) hung too far apart. I think people think this makes the gallery wall look bigger, but I think it actually makes it look smaller. I would do 1.5 inches or 2 inches at the most.
3 – Measure, measure, and measure again. The last thing you want is a million different holes in the wall.
4 – Once a frame is hung in a particular spot, don’t try to rearrange. The hanging hooks can be in slightly different spots on the frames, so if you switch frame positions, it may look off. If you realize you want a photo in a different spot, I would take the photo out and put it in the frame hung in that spot.
5 – Keep your photos cohesive. I opted for all black and white photos, and also all professional photography. It will still look good if you did all color and all candids, but just keep it cohesive. I wouldn’t mix wedding photos with vacation snapshots, etc. I ordered the prints from Walgreens!
Special thank you to the photographers that made this wall happen: Kaitlin Sheran, Justin Graddy, Mackenzie Orth, Lindsay Marcus, and the Jensens!
