visit santa barbara!
here we are in gorgeous santa barbara! we stayed at the casa del mar inn, which is a darling bed and breakfast really close to the santa barbara beaches. the staff at the b&b was so great, offering us a lot of information, as well as a bottle of wine (can't complain about that!) the inn had gorgeous landscaping and really pretty flowers (our room was right near where i am standing above!) when we checked into our room, i had a whole packet from visit santa barbara waiting with all kinds of ... aebleskiver in solvang!
we left san luis obispo en route to santa barbara, and on the way we stopped in solvang! solvang is known as "the denmark of america." it was settled by danish immigrants in the early 1900s, and looks literally just like a danish town (windmills, folk dancing, bakeries, you get it). solvang restaurant was nice enough to host tony and i for aebleskiver! solvang is famous for their aebleskiver, which is like a pancake, but formed into a ball. not sure if i am explaining that well, but it is very ... big sur.
after our picnic in carmel, we headed to big sur. big sur is a long stretch of the california coast known for the scenic views and steep cliffs, as well as the hiking and camping. the drive through big sur is about 85 miles long and we were not ready for how terrifying this drive would be. tony is afraid of heights and you are literally driving on the edge of a cliff for miles and miles (he was white-knuckling it the whole time). if you are scared of heights and doing this trip, i would do the ...
