we just got back from a wonderful four days in cabo san lucas with my mom! i thought i would start sharing trips in a ‘travel guide’ format. let me know if you like it!
where we stayed.
we stayed at the solmar resort on the pacific ocean side of cabo. the resort is the perfect location in cabo as it has pacific ocean views but also is an easy walk to the marina and downtown. when we checked-in to the hotel, we were upgraded to a penthouse suite. the views were amazing and we loved our huge patio facing out to the ocean. the resort is all-inclusive, and we ate most of our meals here. my favorite meals were the breakfasts and lunch! i loved the chilaquiles at breakfast and also the green juice. during the day we spent a lot of time by the pool drinking cocktails and eating sushi or food from the pool bar. this resort (and also this area of cabo) is extremely relaxing. i would recommend this for couples and anyone looking to get away to relax. my one issue with our location is that you are not allowed to swim in the pacific ocean because it’s too rough. we had to go over to the other side of cabo (the sea of cortez) to swim. i think in the future we would try staying over there to swim and also there is a lot more action over there, bars, etc.. will get to that later. loved this resort though!

what we did.
as i mentioned, we spent a lot of time at the resort around the pool. which was amazing! but every day we also walked from the resort to some sort of adventure.
we went for walks on the beach a few times. one thing i would warn you of is that the sand in cabo is not very fine. these beaches are not like the caribbean or even cancun. it actually hurts the bottom of your feet. we referred to walking on the beach as ‘walking on broken glass.’ i would wear tennis shoes or water shoes when walking. also, you cannot get near the water. we knew you could not swim in the ocean, but thought we could dip our feet in. security came and reprimanded us.
we also shopped and drank our way through the marina and downtown area. the marina is a 5 minute walk from the resort, so it was really easy to get to. we loved bartering in the flea markets throughout town. i bought another mexican blanket, a straw bag, and a cabo headband.

one of my favorite parts of the trip was taking one of the ‘glass bottomed boat’ tours to see the cabo sights. cabo is famous for el arco or the arch. el arco is a rock formation at the very southern tip of cabo. near the arch is lover’s beach, a small beach on the sea of cortez side, and also divorce beach, which is on the pacific side. these beaches are only accessible by boat, but still are super crowded. lover’s beach is calm, you can swim or snorkel, but divorce beach is too rough to swim in. i think these beaches are cool to see, but i wouldn’t advise hanging out there as it was so crowded. we also got to see so many sea lions near here. they just killed me they were so cute.
our driver made a detour to take us whale watching. he said as long as he got “muchas tips” that we could take us over there. it was so cool! seeing the whales was tony’s very favorite part of the trip.
on our last day we went to medano beach on the sea of cortez so that we could swim! we brought towels and found a spot to lay. this beach is public, so you can pretty much lay wherever. we loved medano beach! there are tons of people, boats, drinks, and fun! the best part about medano beach is the office. this is a bar and restaurant right on the beach. your feet are in the sand as you are eating. we loved it and it had a great atmosphere. we would love to try a hotel over on medano beach next time. the only part we hated were the vendors. vendors were approaching us trying to sell us stuff every second we were there. the only time they did not bother us is if we were laying face down on our towel.
what to eat and drink.
los tres gallos: had dinner here in a courtyard under a beautifully lit tree. the food is very authentic and very delicious. highly recommend!
the office: great oceanfront bar on medano beach. great atmosphere and even better margaritas! i had fish tacos that were out of this world.
el squid roe: best place to party in cabo!
thanks mom for such an amazing trip!!
