after our picnic in carmel, we headed to big sur. big sur is a long stretch of the california coast known for the scenic views and steep cliffs, as well as the hiking and camping. the drive through big sur is about 85 miles long and we were not ready for how terrifying this drive would be. tony is afraid of heights and you are literally driving on the edge of a cliff for miles and miles (he was white-knuckling it the whole time). if you are scared of heights and doing this trip, i would do the drive north (instead of south like we did) so that there is another lane of traffic between you and the huge drop off (just a tip!) unfortunately i don’t have many photos of the drive because tony was too nervous to stop at any of the scenic overlooks. trust me, it’s gorg!
we did make a few stops on the drive for food and drinks (shocking i know). we stopped and had iced coffees at big sur bakery first. big sur bakery is a cute spot for a quick break or a snack. it’s one of the first places you get to while driving south, so a good first spot to stop!cute husband in a cute bakery.it was 97 degrees in big sur that day. tony couldn’t touch his legs down on this chair because it was so hot! everyone always talks about how california has perfect weather all the time, and tony and i were just laughing because it was so hot in california while we were there!
but for the best views in big sur, stop and have lunch at nepenthe! a definite must! this is the view from the restaurant. nepenthe has these cute stairs to hang out on while you wait for a table. it was super hot, but there were a few shady spots to sit in too.
we had seats right on the railing looking at this gorgeous view! definitely a highlight of our whole trip.
the goat cheese app is everything.
such a beautiful day in big sur!
