To my twin boys,
Today is your third birthday! You have changed so much in the last year. You went from tiny toddlers to big brothers and you are headed to preschool in the Fall! I just can’t believe how grown up you are. Last year we were calling you ‘babies’ but now I can’t even imagine that! You will always be my baby boys though, right?
Each year on your birthday I am reminded how far we have come together. Having twins is so challenging but also so rewarding. Three years ago I held you for the first time and I was just thinking, ‘how the heck are we going to do this?’ but here we are three years later! Three years of ups and downs, and so much joy. I can’t imagine our family without you. We’ve always believed in God’s plan, and His plan was that we have two beautiful twin boys and what amazing blessings you both are.
Your birthday is always during Spring Break, so here we are again down in Florida over your birthday. What a fun little tradition we have going! I’m so blown away by how different you were on our trip last year. Last year we were chasing you around, trying to keep sand out of your mouth, and doing our best to figure out what the two of you were saying! This year you are climbing on all the playground equipment, holding your own in the ocean, and talking up a storm!
You have become so close this year. I love when I hear one of you say to the other, ‘want to play with me?’ or when one of you wakes up and asks for the other one. You have your fights (of course) but you always make up. You always say sorry and hug. I like to remind you that not only are you brothers but you’re best friends. I want you to always have each other. Please always take care of one another.
Sonny – you are our little mama’s boy. I love how you often say, ‘mama, want to play with me?’ I could listen to your ‘thank you mama’ and ‘love you mama’ all day. I also love that you want to do everything with mama right now. It’s always, ‘want to sit with mama,’ ‘want to walk with mama,’ ‘no, I want mama to do it’ and I could go on! We love to hold hands, dance, play, read, and sit together! You always want me when you wake up. Dada often tries to get you so that I can rest, but sometimes you will just not have it!
Sonny you are my little helper. I know I can count on you to clean anything, fix anything, or bring me anything I need. You also have such a curious mind. I can always see your wheels spinning. You spend a lot of your time trying to figure out how things work, climbing until you can reach something, or trying to get into something that you’re not supposed to! Lately you are so curious about what everything is. When you point to something, you say, ‘mama what name that is?’ and when I tell you, you repeat it, and I know you will remember that one forever!
You still have your stuffed puppy Ella, and she goes everywhere with us. You also love playing Buzz Lightyear and Paw Patrol, playing with our play kitchen, and building with legos or magna tiles. You LOVE all ball sports, but especially throwing. So much so, that it’s a bit of a problem and we have to remind you not to throw at your siblings or in the house! You are so determined to figure things out, and get better at things, I just know you will do well with whatever you end up trying!
Theo, my Theo Angel! You are so sweet and so cuddly. You like to cuddle up on the couch (usually with daddy!) You and your dad are best buds and two peas in a pod, and you always say that he is your best friend! You still suck your thumb when you’re getting ready for nap and bedtime. When that sleep sack is getting zipped up, the thumb goes straight in! You are the ultimate comfort guy. If you could, you would wear your sleep sack 24/7. We love all of your sweet kisses lately. You like to put your hands on either side of our face and give a big kiss. You are just the biggest lover.
Theo you are so fun and so funny. I could just watch you all day long and smile and laugh at all the things that you do. Your facial expressions, noises, and dances get everyone laughing. Everyone wants to be around you, and other kids always want to play with you. I picture you making all your classmates laugh someday. Your silly energy and fun attitude is so special and I hope you always keep that fun spirit.
You LOVE toys, especially action figures and little figurines. You are very into spider-man right now, as well as Buzz Lightyear and all the Paw Patrols. You like to pretend play, doing different voices and sounds for all your little figurines. You also like to line all your things up. You are very particular about all of your little guys and have to have everything a certain way. You still love your bunny ‘Ella’ and bring her everywhere.
It has been so wonderful to watch you both grow over the past year. I am so proud of you and what you have accomplished, especially when it comes to your speech and your independence. I can’t wait to see the strides you make this next year. We need to start potty training soon and getting you ready for preschool! How did we get here already?! My big boys are about to start this new life (one that I’m not really a part of!) and that is bittersweet for your mama. I love you my boys. I am the luckiest mom to have been blessed with two perfect boys. Happy third birthday! I love you!
Love, Mama
