Are you having twins? Here are the twin newborn essentials you will need if having twins! Some are twin specific, but others are just general newborn products that we have and love.
TWIN NEWBORN ESSENTIALS (TWIN SPECIFIC)
Twin Z Pillow – The Twin Z pillow is for sure the number one twin product you need. It is basically a double poppy. You can use it for breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or just as a lounger. The cover comes off and is washable. You can buy the covers separately as well. I like to put the pillow on our bed while I bottle feed both babies. Two single boppy pillows would be okay, but not as easy or convenient as the Twin Z pillow.
Double Bassinet – We were on the fence about purchasing a double bassinet, but I highly recommend it. This bassinet has a mesh panel to separate the babies, so that they can sleep together but do so safely. This bassinet has a sleek design and looks nice in our room. The legs can adjust to go up or down depending on the height of your bed, and the whole bassinet can go over your bed for easy feedings (and this makes it space saving too!)
Double Stroller – We have the Uppababy Vista stroller which accommodates two car seats or two regular seats. We have had this since our first child, knowing that we wanted a stroller that would grow with our family. I love that it can do so many different configurations and that it works with their car seats too. When they are newborns, they fit together in the bassinet that the stroller system comes with as well.
TWIN NEWBORN ESSENTIALS (GENERAL)
Preemie Pajamas – My mom gifted us with a bunch of these pajamas in preemie sizes when the babies were born. We had no idea how big or small the twins would be, and we weren’t exactly prepared with preemie clothes. I recommend getting at least a few preemie items as most twins are born around 36 weeks. We had ours at 36+5 and they were in preemie clothes for at least a month!
Lots More Footy Pajamas – These are my favorite affordable pajamas. A set of 3 is only $13 and they come in lots of prints. I like that they are really soft and zip from the bottom for easy diaper changes. You go through a lot of footy pajamas with twin newborns, so it’s best to have a lot!
Two Swings – We have two of these Graco swings and we love them! We have a Mamaroo swing (that we tried for each baby) and neither of the babies like it as well. These swings run on batteries which is nice because we move them easily all over the house and outside. Our babies could hang out in these swings for hours. They love them!
So Many Bottles – As newborns, the babies are both taking 8 bottles a day, which is 16 bottles total. Unless you want to be washing bottles constantly, it’s ideal to have at least 8 bottles if not 16 (in my opinion). We started with 8 bottles and have bought additional bottles since. We like the Dr. Browns bottles, we used them with our first child as well.
Dishwasher Basket – With so many bottles comes LOTS of bottle washing. We wash all of our bottles in the dishwasher and these baskets are great for all of the bottle pieces. The Dr. Browns bottles have a lot of pieces so this keeps everything really organized.
Pacifiers – This is the brand of pacifier that our twins love. These are the kind that they use in the hospital and I think they must be good for tiny babies, because our babies seemed to reject anything else we tried. These come in lots of colors as well.
Gas Drops – I recommend these gas drops for all babies. We have gone through a lot of these drops with all three of our kids. You can buy three packs on Amazon so save a little money too. There are other brands too that they carry at most drug stores, Target, etc.
Sound Machine – This is another recommendation for all babies! A sound machine is a must for baby sleep (in my opinion) and all of our babies have preferred to sleep with a sound machine. I think it’s especially important for twins so that they don’t wake each other up as easily.
Lots of Blankets – We have LOTS of blankets and a wide variety of sizes and weights. These blankets are small and great to use for a blanket or a burp cloth (rolls up easily for diaper bag too). These are from Target and super affordable. I like the neutral prints too.
Solly Wrap – I loved babywearing with our first child but didn’t know if I would really do it with twins. I have found that wearing one baby allows you to tend to the other baby easier. You can also just hold the other baby in your arms while wearing one baby. I have two of these Solly wraps from our first baby and highly recommend!
