Our powder bath makeover is finally complete! The powder bath started extremely YELLOW (see below for a before photo) and I have been wanting to change it since we moved in. The major elements of the powder bath are the floral wallpaper and all of the brass! It turned out absolutely beautiful and I am so happy with the result. I included all of the powder bath links and some helpful information as well!
Before (So Much Yellow!)
I forgot to take a photo before I took the mirror down, but you can still see how bad it was! I actually don’t think it’s THAT bad, but I HATE yellow, so this was not ideal! I think the previous owners but have really loved yellow, because this is not the only room with a hideous yellow.
Wallpaper
I knew that I wanted wallpaper, but I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted and it took me FOREVER to decide. I discovered Serena and Lily wallpaper (all of the papers are so beautiful!) I narrowed it down to the Priano paper and the Summerside paper, and you can see that I ended up choosing this one! The color is a really dark green (although it looks black even in person!) I hired someone local to install the wallpaper and I learned SO MUCH about wallpaper in the process. I will cover that process in depth in another blog post!
Brass Elements
Even before choosing the wallpaper, I was fairly certain that I wanted to replace all of the fixtures and accessories with brass. That being said, I was open to doing something different if the wallpaper somehow changed my mind! Needless to say, the wallpaper looks absolutely perfect with brass. All of the elements are brushed brass, which I like because it’s a more modern.
I picked this mirror because it has the same shape as the shelves in our living room and I like to tie elements from room to room. I really love the light fixture and its little shades. The powder bath is pretty small, and I felt good about choosing a fixture with two lights instead of three. The white paper also provides a lot of brightness. The toilet paper holder and towel ring are from amazon! (each are under $20!)
The Finishing Touches
With all of the brass, I wanted to add some natural elements. We have a lot natural textures in our home (jute rugs, rattan, etc.) so I added the hyacinth basket to tie the powder in to the rest of our main level. We have a pedestal sink so there is zero storage. I think the hyacinth basket on the toilet is a very cute option for toilet paper storage. This is the extra small size. I also added the sand colored hand towel to again, bring some natural elements into the bathroom. This brand of towels at Target is phenomenal! They feel a lot more expensive than they are.
DIY Brass Faucet
This faucet DIY was definitely not plan A! I bought this brass faucet (which I love!) and it was the final element to add to the powder bath. When I discussed the install with a plumber, he said that the pedestal sink would have to be removed and that the wallpaper may get damaged in the process. There was literally NO WAY I was going to risk damaging the wallpaper. After a bit of googling, I discovered this metallic polish. I applied it with an old rag and it turned out great! It’s definitely not perfect, but SO MUCH better than the previous color. I like everything to match!
