I love a jute rug! We have two jute rugs in our home, and I’m already looking at getting more! We have one in our living room and one in our breakfast nook. We’ve had each of the rugs for about three months, so I thought it was time to chat a little about them. Here are a few reasons why I love my jute rugs (with a few warnings too!)
Why I Love Jute Rugs
I Love The Style
The biggest pro of a jute rug (for me) is the look of them. I love the warmth and coziness that they bring to a room. I also love the color and the style. Our home is traditional and fresh and I feel like a jute rug really compliments that look. A lot of my inspiration for our house is coastal and bright (I love anything Serena & Lily) and a jute rug very much fits that aesthetic.
They Always Look Good
Another thing I love about jute rugs is that they always look good. They literally absorb all dirt and whatnot and look clean even when they’re not. We have a lot of light colored carpet in our home that looks dirty instantly (like our living room). That’s one of the reasons why I put a rug down because the carpet was always looking bad. Jute rugs really don’t show stains, or dirt, and they look just as good now as the day I got them. These are great for us because we have a dog and a baby and a decent amount of dirt! By the way I cannot see our dog’s black hair on these at all!
They’re Inexpensive
It can be difficult to find affordable rugs sometimes, especially when you want large sizes (they can be thousands!) I found the 9×12 jute rug from our living room for under $300 (link here). I found the 8 foot round jute rug in our breakfast nook for about $100 (price has gone up, but here is the link!) Both of our rugs are Safavieh brand and they seem to have the most affordable jute rugs on the market.
Challenges of a Jute Rug
Those Hard to Get Out Stains
Although jute rugs do not show dirt and hair and all that, those big spills are tough to get out. The jute rug in our breakfast nook is taking quite the beating by our 9 month old who is learning to eat. Those raspberries stains may be here to stay! I’ve had good luck with Folex spot remover and a lot of scrubbing. That being said, a mat under her high chair is probably a better option!
I Wouldn’t Take a Nap On One
Personally, I love the feel of a jute rug. I like the woven texture and how it feels under my feet. Rosie loves to crawl on it and it’s super comfortable. However, I wouldn’t say this is a cushy or fluffy rug that you would grab a blanket and lay down on. This isn’t really a negative for me, but if this is something you like to do, I wanted to give a proper warning.
