Rosie James – I absolutely love your name little one. I know we’re biased, but we think she has the absolute cutest name. We get complimented (and asked about it) all the time. I’ve never really talked about how we came up with the name Rosie James, so I thought it would be fun to tell the story.
I’ll start with her middle name, James. This is obviously not conventional being that it is a “boy” name, which is why I think people love it! Tony’s middle name is also James (after his dad) and I have always really liked that name. Early on during pregnancy we decided that boy or girl, the baby’s middle name would be James. It would have been so cute for a boy too obviously, but I love the idea of a little girl being named after her dad. Since Rosie was born, I have noticed this more and more. I have seen a baby girl with the middle name Drew after her dad and one with the middle name Bryce after her dad. Something to think about it you have a girl!
Now for her first name, Rosie. I loved the name Rosie our entire pregnancy, but Tony did not! When I would bring it up, he would say no, that’s not my favorite. I never fought him on it because I really wanted a name that we both loved. Why fight to convince your partner on a name? You both want to love the name, right?
The name we both really loved for most of the pregnancy was Ruby. In fact, we actually referred to the baby sometimes as “Ruby.” We didn’t know if she was a boy or a girl, so it wasn’t like that was “her name,” but we still played around every once in awhile. When we were on our babymoon in Hawaii, there was this really darling family at our resort and we would watch them together and talk about how cute they were. We were picturing and talking about how that would be us really soon. One day the parents yelled to their little girl, “Ruby!” and Tony and I were like, that’s a sign! If the baby is a girl, we’re naming her Ruby.
Toward the end of the pregnancy, we started to not like Ruby as much for one reason or another and we had to go back to the drawing board. I even asked for suggestions on Instagram! By the time she was born, we had a few other names picked out. Keep in mind, we didn’t know she was a girl, so we had lists for both boys and girls picked out.
The baby came out, Tony said “it’s a girl!” and they laid her immediately on my chest. Pretty quickly Tony says, “what do you think about Rosie?” and I smiled and said “that‘s exactly what I was thinking.”
Since then I have asked Tony why he suggested Rosie when he didn’t like the name at all during pregnancy. He said that when she came out and he saw her, that just was her name. It’s funny they say that when you see the baby you‘ll know if the name fits or not, and that’s exactly what he said happened. She came out and he thought, “that’s Rosie.”
There you have it. That’s our Rosie James!
*I ordered the sign from this company, but it looks like the shop is shut down? I didn’t like the color I ordered so I spray painted it with Krylon matte wild rose.
