I am 37 weeks this week which means that baby could be here any minute! The doctor seems to think that baby will arrive sometime in the next week or two! After our doctor’s appointment last week (which already showed some progress!), I figured that I better get a hospital bag ready. I’ve been doing lots of research on what to pack in a hospital bag and let me tell you, my list was LONG. I was going over my list with Tony and he though it was wayyyy too much stuff! I eliminated a bunch of items (on his suggestion!) but we’ll see what I end up using!
There is so much information out there that it can be difficult (at least for me) to decide what to pack. Hopefully this list helps!
What I Packed in My Hospital Bag
- Hospital Bag – I packed a small rolling suitcase just for ease
- Important documents – ID, insurance card, credit card, paperwork, birth plan, etc.
- Delivery gown – hospital does provide but I wanted something softer so I grabbed this one
- Nursing dresses and robes – will probably live in these and wear for visitors
- Nursing-Friendly Pajamas – grabbed this $20 nightgown that’s non-maternity (see photo above) and I highly recommend for everyone (even non-prego/nursing!)
- Sweatpants – These may get ruined and I will probably throw them out but I’ve been wearing them nonstop throughout pregnancy anyway l
- Nursing bras – Bought this pack of 3 for $26
- Nursing tanks – Bought this pack of 3 for $30
- Comfy underwear – Bought this pack of 4 for $19
- Blanket – Bought this one on clearance
- Comfy socks – Added bonus if they have grips like these!
- Slippers – I got these really cheap but an old pair will do
- Shower Flip-Flops – I bought these $2 ones
- Nursing Pillow – The breastfeeding class I took recommended bringing it to help with feedings. I may leave it in the car?
- Water bottle – Hospitals provide one too
- Nursing Pads – I got the disposable kind and the reusable kind
- Nipple Butter – Been using this kind throughout pregnancy
- Fridababy Fridet – heard this was a must! Google it 🙂
- Overnight Essentials – This varies but toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, dry shampoo, hair ties, makeup, etc.
- Going Home Outfit – I packed this dress I’ve been wearing a lot during pregnancy (you still look 7 months pregnant when you leave!)
What Tony Packed in His Bag
- Hospital Bag – Tony has this one and it’s a great size for a few nights
- Blanket – I got this on clearance (same as above)
- Comfy and warm clothes for both day and night
- Nicer outfit for photos
- Overnight essentials
What I Packed For Baby
- Car Seat – the most important item!
- Diaper Bag – not necessary but I thought it was easier for baby to have their own hospital bag to separate it from mine
- Swaddle/Hat Sets – I packed a few different ones and plan to have baby in these most of the time. I also plan to use them for photos!
- Pajamas/Sleepers/Onesies or other items you want for baby at the hospital – make sure to bring newborn sizes (or even preemie) in case baby is small.
- Cute signage to announce the name, birth date, etc. (I have some cute things from my shower a few weeks ago!)
- Baby Book – I found this $20 one on Amazon
- Baby nail files – I hear the hospital will not cut baby’s nails
- Burp cloths for feedings
- Going Home Outfit – debating between what Tony and I wore or something new! Better pack both 🙂
Other Misc. Items
- Camera and camera charger
- Extra long phone charging cord – outlets are not very close to the bed so I bought a 10 foot one
- Snacks and drinks
- Thank you gifts for nurses
