Tony and I have chosen not to find out whether Baby Schrank is a boy or a girl. In the times of ‘gender reveal’ parties and all of that, most people are completely shocked that we have decided not to find out. The reactions I get mostly are, “but you’re such a planner!” or “what are you going to do about the nursery?” Even at the OB, when we tell the sonographers that we don’t want to know, they comment how they hardly ever hear that these days.
Why not find out?
Ultimately for us, there is no surprise more worth the wait. We have been praying for and thinking about this baby for years. We are so elated to be having a baby that we really don’t care whether it’s a boy or a girl. I think this is common for couples that have struggled with infertility. Some of our best friends went through similar struggles and they too did not find out the gender of their babies. When you have been waiting this long, what’s 9 more months?
Tony is very excited for the “It’s a _____!“ moment in the delivery room. He is also very excited to deliver the news to our families in the waiting room. Finding out at an ultrasound is exciting but finding out when they are born seems truly spectacular. Tony and I also did not do a “first look” at our wedding. The first time we saw each other was walking down the aisle. This decision feels very similar to that one on our wedding day. There are so few truly magical moments in life, and for us, this is one of them.
What about the clothes and the nursery?
For me, I am not someone that is going to dress the baby in all pink or all blue regardless. In fact, once the baby is born I still don’t plan on buying a bunch of pink or blue clothes. I’ve heard that once you announce the gender, you are bombarded with very gender-specific gifts. I also would rather the gifts be baby gear, diapers, or other practical gifts anyway!
As you may expect from me, our nursery is going to be very neutral. I would have planned it the exact same way had I known the gender too. I am loving all things white, grey, and natural for the babe right now. Also, if we we are blessed with another pregnancy, I plan on reusing everything we purchase for this baby’s nursery for the next baby (no matter the gender).
Gender Predictions
Anyone that sees me in person (or on Instagram) seems to think that I am having a boy. The way the bump looks and the way my body looks, apparently scream boy. I’ve also looked into many of the different ‘old wives’ tales’ on baby’s gender and it’s pretty split!
- Cravings: Sweet (Girl)
- Sickness: Not bad (Boy)
- Skin: Great (Boy)
- Glowing: Yes (Boy)
- Tony gaining weight: No (Boy)
- Moody: Yes (Girl)
- Carrying: Low (Boy)
- Ring Test: Circles (Girl)
- Baby’s heart rate: Fast (Girl)
- Chinese Gender Calendar: Boy
So, do you think Baby Schrank is a boy or a girl?! Tony thinks girl and he’s pretty much had that gut feeling the entire pregnancy. My gut in the beginning of the pregnancy was that baby was a boy, then I spent about 3 months thinking it was a girl, and now I’m back to boy. So, who knows!
We are just so excited to meet Baby Schrank, and boy or girl this baby will be the most loved baby in the world!

This takes me back to my pregnancy 🥰 we did all of the same thing adorable the same reasons. Oddly, all of the wives tales are almost exactly the same as well! EVERYONE thought I was having a boy… Except my dad and as you know, he was right! For all those reasons I’m guessing girl 💕
