It’s taken me awhile to share Rosie’s nursery, but I am FINALLY sharing a few photos. I am excited to share the inspiration, what we picked out, and also some space-saving tips. I still have some finishing touches (I want to add some pink touches at some point!) but here are a few fun photos!
The Inspiration
The inspiration for the nursery is actually this wall hanging that I made, We collected all of the sea glass when we were in the Bahamas last November (we did not know we were pregnant at this point!) The day after we got back from our trip, we found out we were pregnant. I knew I wanted to use the sea glass for something in the baby’s room. Then on our babymoon in March, we collected all of the driftwood. We knew we did not want to find out the gender of the baby, so I thought a sea glass and driftwood inspired color scheme would be a perfect gender-neutral theme. After spending a few hours on Pinterest, I decided a wall hanging of some sort would be the perfect art for the nursery and a great gender-neutral inspiration for the space.
Major Design Elements
Light Fixture – This fixture was one of the very first items we purchased for the nursery. Tony told me it was too expensive, and then surprised me with it. It’s made from wooden beads and has a very beachy vibe.
Crib – I saw this crib online and thought it was the perfect gender-neutral crib (and also super affordable!) I liked that it was a bit smaller because we have a tiny room to work with. The crib is also convertible, so it will convert to a toddler bed and grow with her.
Changing Table – This is the changing table that goes with the crib. It comes in two different sizes, and this is the smaller one. It fits all of the changing table necessities, and you can see more on how it’s organized over in this post.
Rug – I went back and forth on so many rugs the last few months of pregnancy, and decided on this blue one. Whenever anyone saw it, they just assumed we knew the baby was a boy! I just really like blue and I like how this goes with the driftwood and sea glass.
Space Saving Solutions
This room isn’t technically a bedroom. It doesn’t have a window, closet, or a door! It’s really a “den,” but we’re using it as a bedroom. One of the biggest challenges for us the fact that there wasn’t any storage. Besides her changing table, where were we going to put all of the stuff? And babies have so much stuff!
We bought this wardrobe from Ikea. This is the Pax wardrobe and it can be customized with different pieces to make it exactly how you want it. We elected to get two bars for her clothes, a few shelves, and a few baskets. It literally fits perfectly into this space between the cement column and the wall.
This may not look like much but there are SO MANY diapers underneath the crib. I shopped forever to find a crib skirt that was long enough to hide everything that is under there. I love this idea for the items that you don’t use as much (extra diapers, wipes, etc.).
Other Little Details
- The bookcase was mine as a baby, and I love that Rosie is using it for her books too.
- The mini gallery wall has photos from our maternity session with Mackenzie Orth and they are hung in these frames.
- The art above the changing table is a bible verse that I really connected with while pregnant. I bought this from a shop on Etsy.
- The milestone blocks have been a fun way to track her weekly and monthly updates.
Let me know if there is anything I missed! I love how this nursery turned out and I can’t wait to add the finishing touches.
