I got this $12 ice roller on Amazon and I love it so much that I incorporated it into my routine! I don’t do it daily, but I do it a lot. I have naturally very hooded and puffy eyes. If I eat a lot of salt, drink a lot, sleep in makeup, etc. etc. my eyes get 100 times worse. I have been experimenting with some different treatments for eye puffiness and this ice roller really does the trick!
I was ice rolling my face on Instagram stories a few Sundays ago (thank you wedding hangover) and I got so many messages! So many people were like “what in the world are you doing?” Ice rolling is a hot topic I guess! If you are wondering why you would ever want to ice roll your face (lol!) here are some of the benefits.
5 Reasons to Use an Ice Roller
- Helps with puffiness – Like I said, this is the primary reason why I use this ice roller. Ice makes any type of puffiness or swelling go down. You could use on eyes, cheeks, neck, etc.
- Reduces redness – At the first sign of a pimple (like underneath the skin and starting to form) use this ice roller. Ice rolling does not cure acne by any means, but it will reduce redness. Similarly, if you are red after a workout, facial, etc. this will help to reduce the redness.
- Great for headaches – If you have a migraine or even just a headache, this feels awesome! It is like using an ice pack, but you have the added benefit (and relaxation) of the rolling.
- Makes you look younger – I don’t know if this is scientifically proven, but I have heard that ice rolling makes your skin firm and helps to fight wrinkles. I’m not going to argue with that, I think most of us will do anything that *may* make us look younger.
- It just feels amazing – I like to do this when I am hungover or when I just want to relax. It feels super nice and I highly recommend it when suffering from a hangover or just under the weather! Don’t roll too hard, it should feel relaxing!
How do I use it?
The green roller part snaps out of the handle and goes in the freezer (I just keep mine in there). I wouldn’t recommend keeping the entire thing in there because the handle is too cold to hold if frozen! When you want to ice roll, snap the roller part in and start rolling! I (try to) always do it with a clean face so I don’t roll grimy stuff all over my face, but this is certainly not a requirement. I recommend doing it after you wash your face in the morning or at night. I wake up with puffy eyes a lot, so I love to roll in the morning.
Places that I Ice Roll
- Across my forehead (great for headaches)
- Across my eyelids (for puffiness)
- Up and down my cheeks (for puffiness)
- Across my chin (my usual pimple spot)
- Across my neck (for puffiness)
What about those jade rollers?
I haven’t tried a jade roller but I may order that next. My favorite feature of my ice roller is that it’s cold (and the jade roller is not). I think if I ordered the jade roller, I would still keep it in the freezer. I saw this $11 one on Amazon, and I’ve never seen a jade roller that cheap. Most of the ones I have seen at a beauty store or department store are more like $30-$60 (for example…). For that price, I think I would consider the jade one as well!
