I posted on Instagram stories back in May about my botox! I’ve had multiple people reach out to me in the last few weeks with questions, so I thought I would give you a follow-up! There is also a special discount at the end of this post if you are interested in getting some botox of your own!
Where did you get it done?
My mom did my botox! She is a dentist at Grove Health Dental in Maple Grove. If you want to make an appointment, her name is Kate Blubaugh. Dentists are now getting certified to do botox, which I think is just super convenient. Make an appointment to get your teeth cleaned and then get some botox. Or just botox! I trust my mom completely, so go check her out if interested!
What is ‘preventative botox’ all about?
When you think about botox, you probably don’t think about a 28-year-old like me. You probably think more about older women because botox improves the appearance of wrinkles. However, ‘preventative botox’ is used to stop wrinkles before they even start! By basically “freezing” those muscles, you can prevent their movement and the resulting wrinkles. The best time to start treating with botox, is when you first start to see wrinkles in a resting position (i.e. not making a specific facial expression).
Is botox safe?
First, I will preface by saying you should speak to a doctor (as I have zero medical training!) That being said, botox is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the world and has an amazing safety record. Generally speaking, botox is very safe. There are risks involved, including (but not limited to): pain, swelling, bruising, headaches, etc. There are also certain risks if you are pregnant, so again, consult a doctor.
Wait, aren’t you all about “natural” beauty?
Yes, I am absolutely all about natural products and I do my best on a day-to-day basis to avoid them where I can, but no, I am not completely “natural.” I like to think I am 80/20 when it comes to natural products. If 80% of what I do and use is safe, I feel okay about the other 20%. Also, I NEVER claimed that I don’t use any chemicals. I do my best, but again, it’s all about balance! I do my best to research and make good decisions, and ultimately the decisions are mine to make. Botox seems to get a bad rap and people lie (for some reason) about the fact that they’ve had it. I try to be an open book and answer questions honestly. I would love for botox (and all other choices) to remain judgment free here. You do you boo!
Does it hurt?
It did hurt a little bit, but the needles are very small. It is slightly more painful than getting acupuncture, but way less painful than getting a shot. They do not numb the area because you need to be able to move the areas to show the doctor the lines. The area that hurt the worst was right above my eyebrows. Overall, I would not worry about the pain.
What did it feel like once it was over?
Immediately after, I had these small red blotches (kind of like pimples) at each of the injection sites. I was worried (because we had a party to go to later that day) but after a few hours I couldn’t see those marks at all. My mom just said to make sure to not add makeup to the area (because I wanted to cover all that up) because you want to keep those sites clean. I never got any bruising, but I have heard from others that they had light bruising.
It was a strange feeling having all that fluid in my forehead, but it definitely did not hurt. It just felt kind of tight. As the days went by (and I started to see results) it felt more and more tight.
It’s important to not exercise, bend over, or lie down the day you get it done. You don’t want to mess with the botox and end up with a lazy eye or something!
When do you see results? How Long does it last?
It takes 4-10 days to see the full results of your botox, but I started to see results immediately. As far as how long it lasts, generally speaking, botox can last 3-6 months.
How much did it cost?
At my mom’s office, botox is $12 a unit. I got 26 units, so if you do the math, that is $312. Depending on what you decide to have done, the cost may be more or less. I got less in my forehead than what is typical, but more in my glabella area (the “11s”). The cost would obviously be more if you did more areas of your face, but I only did my forehead area.
Now for the best part, the discount! My mom is doing a deal at her office solely for Wedded Liss followers! She is going to do the botox for $9 a unit for you all. That is a huge savings! Make an appointment at Grove Health Dental with Dr. Kate and mention that Wedded Liss sent you! She is going to run the deal beginning today for a whole month, so book before October 20th to get your botox for $9 a unit!

Great post, I think if you are to use Botox in the lips, you would not be able to move your mouth like you normally do.Thanks for sharing.
