I discovered Cora tampons on my quest to switch a lot of my products to safe and natural products. I was searching for tampons that were free of dyes, chemicals, and all that crap, but what I found was even better! First, Cora is a subscription-based service, so the tampons are literally delivered to your door. Second, they donate pads to girls in need. What’s not to like about this situation?
The Need for Organic Tampons
The fact that Cora tampons are natural is the main reason that I switched to this product. As I have mentioned in other blog posts, beauty products sold here in the U.S. are not well regulated and contain many harmful ingredients. These ingredients are linked to endocrine disruption (fertility), cancer, and other illnesses. Tampons specifically can contain bleach, dyes, BPA, etc. Cora gives us a safe option for tampons but they do not compromise on performance.
Cora Tampon Review
Now for the actual nitty gritty of the review. How was it actually using this tampon?
Pros
- Natural – I know I already mentioned this, but the tampons are certified organic cotton!
- Discreet – The packaging is ‘quiet’ I guess you could say. If discretion is your thing, I wouldn’t worry about anyone noticing that you’re opening a tampon.
- Packaging – I appreciate the fact that these tampons look like they’re for a woman. I’m not 14 years old, and I don’t want my tampons to be pink and yellow and look like candy. I’m a grown-ass woman and I want my tampons to look like it.
- Absorbency – I didn’t notice any difference compared to my regular tampons.
Cons
- Applicator – I’ve read this in multiple reviews (so I don’t think it’s just me!) but the applicator really isn’t the best. The end of applicator is flat, so it doesn’t go in that easily. Also, you have to push kind of hard to get the tampon out of the applicator (is this TMI?) It’s happened to me where I pulled the applicator out and the tampon was still in there. This definitely took a little practice!
Cora is Just A Great Company!
For every month’s supply of tampons that you purchase, Cora gives a month’s supply of pads to a girl in a developing country. Can you imagine not having access to feminine products? Girls in these countries are literally dropping out of school when they get their period. These pads are also produced in rural villages to support the local economies and give these women jobs. I love that I am helping girls in need by using this product. Take that Tampax!
Want to Purchase? Here are the Details
When you first start using Cora, the first month is free! During the ‘free month’ you receive a month’s worth of Cora tampons. Try it out and see what you think! After that, it’s between $11 and $16 per month depending on how many tampons you need for that month. I do the $11 a month because my period is three days or less.
Your first “paid month” (so month #2) you receive:
- 3 months of Cora tampons
- A black box – This black box is super stylish and actually sits out on the shelf in my bathroom. It does not look like a tampon box. It fits approximately 3 months of tampons.
- A clutch – This cute little container fits 4 tampons (enough for 1 day) and I keep it in my purse during my period. I can grab this whole clutch when I go to the bathroom and no one knows that they’re tampons.
- 3 Stowaways – These little tubes were designed for sharing. If your friend/co-worker/etc. needs a tampon, you give her the little tube with a tampon in it. You could also grab the tube (versus the clutch) when you need to run to the bathroom.
Once the three months are up, you receive a refill kit which includes:
- 3 months of Cora tampons
- Additional stowaways for sharing
Overall
Overall, I love using these natural tampons. The most important thing to me is that this product is safe and natural. I also love that I am supporting a good cause. There are a few things with the application that aren’t the best, but I got used to it. I will absolutely continue to use this product!
