You all asked for it… more Tony! A photo of me and Tony on our wedding anniversary was (by far) the most liked photo on my Instagram in 2017. When I asked you all if you wanted to see more of Tony in 2018, it was an overwhelming “yes!” As many of you know, this blog started as a place to document and share our newlywed life. I want to stay true to that and do more posts that have both of us. And I obviously want to give the people what they want! 🙂
One of the things that Tony and I are both very passionate about is dating. You’re thinking, dating? Yes dating your spouse. Tony and I go on a date every week. I’m sure we have missed some weeks in there, but we try to go on a date every single week. We are also doing “dry January” right now. So while going out to dinner is really fun (and you don’t need to drink to go out to dinner) it’s kind of fun to brainstorm some sober date ideas for these winter months.
Winter Date Ideas
Get out in the snow
Grab some sleds and find a big hill to sled down. Maybe even in your own neighborhood! There are also a number of places to get snowshoes, sleds, or other winter rentals.
Cheer For the Home Team
We just went to a Wild game the other night and had a blast. Most sporting events are indoors so when it’s really cold out (it was in the single digits when we went) it’s nice to be inside!
Take a Cooking Class
This is something that has been on our list for awhile. I am especially interested in taking a macaroon class sometime! If you have done this in the Minneapolis area, send me a note!
Skating
Tony is a great skater (played hockey all his life) so he loves to go skating. Me? I’m not the best. I’d like to get out there a few times this winter though!
Carriage Rides
In the North Loop there are carriage rides occasionally through the neighborhood. It looks super romantic, like just straight out of a movie. Bring some blankets and cuddle up.
Go to a Concert
A few weeks ago we went to the Lana Del Rey concert and it was so so fun. Live music is the cure for any kind of winter blues. Special note to go see Lana if you can. She is amazing!
Check out the Ice Castles
Every winter there are ice castles in the Twin Cities. We went a few years ago and it was a very unique and fun date. Go in the evening to really get the magic of the lights.
Stay Warm (and Look Cute!)
Dressing for the winter can be tough, especially for a winter date. It’s hard not to look like a giant marshmallow. Stick to a classic coat, something warm but also stylish. I love this classic coat from J. Crew Factory. It looks just like the original, but is a fraction of the cost. This is also the perfect opportunity to have fun with winter accessories. I love the beret trend this season. This one is super affordable from Nordstrom. I found this amazing light blue stole last year, but have seen a few different ones around while shopping, shop a similar one here and here.
