if you follow me on instagram, you know that i just got back from a cruise in the caribbean with my family (thanks to my in-laws jim and dawn!). we sailed aboard royal caribbean’s empress of the seas. the empress of the seas is the smallest ship in royal caribbean’s fleet, but as our cruise director carlos would say, it has the biggest heart! with fewer guests on board, the ship felt a lot more intimate than other cruises, and never felt too crowded. it was also super easy to navigate due to its smaller size, and we felt like we had mastered it on the first day. the rooms were recently renovated and very nice. our stateroom attendants were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
we ate breakfast and lunch in the windjammer most days. there was a nice variety and everyone in our group found something that they liked. for dinner we did the ‘my time’ dining option in the main dining room. we made reservations at different times each night and were always seated right away. the food and service were both excellent every night. the menus were different themes each night (italian, american, latin, and french). i especially enjoyed the beef tenderloin, mahi mahi, and escargot. on our one day at sea, royal caribbean offered a brunch with complimentary bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. we thought this was extremely fun and a great addition to our cruise.
although the empress was a bit older and smaller than other ships in the fleet, there was plenty for us to do. we enjoyed laying poolside with fun tropical drinks, trying our hand at electronic poker in the casino, and doing some shopping. i bought two pairs of beautiful earrings and a necklace from the royal shops on board. the shops had a nice variety and a lot of cute items! in the evenings we enjoyed the broadway-style shows, the comedian, and the game shows. i am convinced that cruising is the way to vacation with a family (we had six in our group) because there are a lot of different options for people to do throughout the cruise and everything is included.
i am so grateful for the VIP experience i had on the empress of the seas. we had a fantastic experience aboard a beautiful ship. we are already planning our next trip aboard royal caribbean. we are thinking maybe a european cruise this fall? what do you guys think?
