today i am starting a travel series called #lisstravels where i will share bits about our many travels. i am starting the series with 24 hours in savannah. i haven’t shared a ton about our travel in the past. because it’s a huge part of our life, i am making it a goal to share more!
we decided to take a fun trip over the 4th of july weekend. we decided to keep it within the u.s. since we only had 4 nights. we booked 2 nights in savannah and 2 nights in charleston. the 2 nights in savannah did not go exactly as we planned. due to engine failure on our flight out of minneapolis, we missed our connection to savannah. we ended up spending the night in chicago. we didn’t arrive in savannah until the next morning. hence the only 24 hours in savannah! here is our perfect day…
our perfect 24 hours in savannah:
brunch at the collins quarter
we arrived late morning and checked into our hotel. we were hungry and ready to try some southern food. we had heard a lot of great things about the collins quarter so we walked over to this adorable restaurant. the wait to eat inside was super long (because air conditioning) so we opted to eat outside. it was 90 degrees with 100% humidity. i love hot weather so i didn’t mind! the lavender latte below is one of my favorite coffee drinks ever. delicious! i opted to have it iced (because v v hot as i mentioned). i’m a sucker for paper straws too, so there’s that! we also had the ‘swine time beni’ and the ‘biscuits gone wild’ which were both delicious. highly recommend!
walk savannah’s historic squares
savannah is very famous for the 22 squares throughout the city. each square had the most gorgeous oak trees and moss. any of these squares would be the perfect setting for a picnic or outdoor wedding. obsessed! we didn’t have the time (or the stamina!) to make it all 22, but did make it to a few. my personal favorite was chippewa square. chippewa square is where they filmed that famous scene from forrest gump. life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get!
relax in forsyth park
forsyth park is a large 30 acre park right in the heart of savannah. it had the most gorgeous trees and a beautiful fountain. we walked around and just enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
shop the look:
shop broughton street
next up is a little shopping on broughton street. broughton street had a mix of local stores and chain stores. my favorite stop was the paris market. i loved looking at all of the home decor, jewelry, and gifts. next we stopped at the coffee fox to cool down. i had a popsicle in prosecco. why had i never thought of this before? so refreshing! i should mention that savannah is an open container city. you can walk everywhere in the historic district with a drink. i think savannah is the perfect spot for a bachelorette party for this reason!
walk the city market and river street
the city market and river street both have dozens of restaurants and shops for souvenirs. there were food trucks, barbecue vendors, live music, and a fun atmosphere. this is the most ‘tourist-y’ area of savannah, for sure. however, i think a walk along the savannah river is a must-do while in savannah. this was tony’s favorite part of our day.
dinner at the olde pink house
i posted on instagram that we were traveling to savannah. i got so many messages to go to the olde pink house that i added it straight to our itinerary. i made reservations in advance, as this is a very popular spot. the olde pink house is named for the color of the stucco. it was built in 1771 and even survived a fire. one of the most interesting things about the olde pink house is that it is haunted. there are numerous stories of ghost sightings. guests have seen the original owner james habersham, as well as numerous other spirits. very creepy! i would go just for the ghost hunting aspect. the food is excellent as well. the fried chicken is our favorite ever!
