coco loco? you better belize it! the first stop of our cruise was to belize city, belize. we had originally intended to do a cave tubing excursion, but due to the zika virus, we thought it best to opt out. we booked a snorkeling excursion instead, and it ended up working out great! the excursion company picked us up at the cruise ship, which was super easy (and convenient!) and then took us out to the barrier reef. belize is home to the second largest barrier reef in the world, and it actually spans four countries. we saw a string ray, an eel, a lot of fish, and a lot of coral. the snorkeling trip included unlimited rum punch (extra fun!) after snorkeling, the boat took us to starfish island, where we got to relax on the beach and have drinks. this island was so. stinking. cute. the island is named for having a lot of starfish (i guess?) because there were tons of them that we got to pick up and take photos with, which was really cool!
after the excursion, the boat took us back to the cruise ship where we had a little under 2 hours left in belize. because we didn’t actually get to go to the port on the excursion, we quickly changed and hopped onto the tender to take us into port. (belize is super small and can’t fit a giant cruise ship in their port). at the port i got my favorite thing ever, coco loco. this is fresh coconut mixed with rum. the guy that was making them told me to chug as much coconut water out as I wanted rum added. i may have drank too much out because it was strong! i couldn’t even finish it all by the time the tender brought us back to the ship. it was huge and really packed a punch (pun intended!)
these photos are all from the belize city port. sadly, i don’t have any from the excursion as i was afraid my camera would get wet. joe and holly brought their gopro and took a bunch of photos, so if i get more from them, i will share!
this is the view of our ship from the tender. can you believe how blue this water is?!
holly was looking for dolphins the whole time on the tender.
