I have wanted these leggings for (I’m not kidding) YEARS, but could never get myself to pull the trigger. $98 for leggings is A LOT! I’ve paid that kind of money for Lulu leggings before, but I justified that because I wanted quality leggings that would last many many workouts. But $98 for leggings that I can’t workout in and I also can’t wear to work? No way! I was also worried that I wouldn’t wear them enough. How many outfits can you pair with faux leather?
Last year I bought a cheap pair of faux leather leggings from Nordstrom and I wore them ALL THE TIME (the cheap pair are sold out, but you can see the photo for comparison)! Although I did really love them, the waistband would roll, they didn’t really suck me in or smooth me out the way that I wanted, and these leggings just weren’t the best.
Fast forward to this Fall – I finally bought the Spanx brand of faux leather leggings. I waited for them to go on sale (I think they were 25% off when I finally ordered them). Now that I have them, I am OBSESSED! I’ve worn them several times and have only had them a few weeks. Everyone I know that has these LOVES them (myself included). They are worth every penny!
I did a fair amount of research before purchasing these (I mean, I’ve had a lot of time to think about it!) so I wanted to relay that information on!
What Size Should I order?
I got a large in these leggings, which is one size up from my normal size. I would recommend going up a size if you are in between sizes or if you are debating between two. Because they are Spanx (and if you’ve ever worn Spanx before), you know that they are supposed to be TIGHT. Even with the large, it’s a little bit of struggle to get these on, like you may start sweating. If you want them to REALLY suck you in (at the risk of your own comfort), go ahead and get your normal size. I wanted to be able to wear these for lounge, travel, etc. and wanted to be comfortable so I sized up. As far as length, these are very long on me (I’m 5’5″) and actually have them rolled under in these photos.
Do You Think They Look Cheap?
Compared to other faux leather leggings that I have seen, the Spanx ones look WAY more expense. My other pair (the cheapo ones) are super shiny and let’s just say that they look like about $20 leggings. This pair is not as shiny, and almost has a distressed/worn-in look to them. The material is super high quality (think Lulu or other high-end legging). They look and feel well made and like they will last.
Are They Worth It?
YES! I was very skeptical myself, but the Spanx leggings are 100% worth it. First, they are extremely versatile. I wore them here with a sweatshirt, but wore them last night to church with heels. You will wear them so much more than you think. I plan to do a roundup of all the ways I have worn them sometime soon (I am wearing them literally constantly). Second (and maybe more importantly), they are so flattering! I look back at my old like $20 leather leggings and laugh. These ones smooth every bump and line, and are high-waisted, so they suck your stomach in like crazy.

I have lusted after these for so long! I’m thinking a splurge is necessary when I’m finally out of maternity clothes?!
