We’re pregnant! We’re announcing with the utmost respect for those of you in the process of trying to become parents, wherever you are in that process. Know that God has given you the spirit to be able to do this, and His timing is always perfect. We waited 490 days to see that positive pregnancy test and every difficult minute was worth it. We couldn’t be more excited that this little miracle is on the way.
Remember the Bahamas?
Just after Thanksgiving Tony and I went on a trip to Florida and the Bahamas. I knew that my period was due in the Bahamas, so of course I brought supplies. When my period never showed on the trip, I didn’t really think much of it. My cycles were super irregular (part of the struggle of getting pregnant) so I never really knew when it would come. When my cycle got to 30 days in the Bahamas, I didn’t really think much of it.
We arrived back home on Day 31 and went to my work Holiday party that night. I had a few drinks and enjoyed the evening like I normally would. That night when we got home, I asked Tony if I should take a test in the morning. He said no, you’ll just be disappointed. I pretty much stopped taking pregnancy tests after a year of trying because I was always so disappointed when they were negative.
How We Found Out
The next morning, I woke up and Tony was still asleep. I snuck into the bathroom to take a test. If the test turned out to be negative, I would just throw it away and never even tell Tony that I took one. I peed on the stick and set it on the counter, and then went into the kitchen to make coffee. Because the tests take about 5 minutes, I knew I had time to get the coffee started and then read the test while Tony was still sleeping.
I was still getting the coffee ready and Tony comes into the kitchen and says, “what’s the test supposed to look like?” I was like, “what do you mean, what’s it supposed to look like?” Tony apparently thought it was positive but needed me to confirm! Tony has never really seen a test before (because I always throw them away immediately). Both of us go into the bathroom and I see that the test is positive! I can’t believe Tony found out before me that we were pregnant! I guess all of those cute ways I had brainstormed to tell him are out the window!
