The Minnesota State Fair is the highlight of our Summer (if not the entire year!) Tony says that State Fair day is actually his favorite day of the year and that it is better than Christmas. I’m not quite sure it’s pretty than Christmas, but it’s pretty great. This year I went three times (not a record, but a good number). I got to enjoy the fair first with my sister and her boyfriend, then with my team from work, and then with Tony (which is my favorite way to experience the fair!) The best part of the fair is of course the food. We like to get a mix of both the ‘classics’ and the new foods. I compiled a list of my 5 favorite foods this year at the fair. These are in no particular order, and include both classics and new foods. What were your favorite foods this year?
5 Favorite Foods at the Minnesota State Fair
Sconuts – This is a newer item from French Meadow Bakery. It is a cross between (you guessed it) a scone and a donut. This would be a delicious breakfast item at the fair (but good anytime of day!)
Cheese Curds – Our favorite cheese curds at the fair are from Mouth Trap in the Food Building. These are so good that I had them two separate times at the fair this year. I like mine with ketchup!
General Tso’s Taco – This was a brand new item from Taco Cat (part of the Midtown Global Market in the International Bazaar). This might have been my favorite item of the whole fair. It was spicy, deep fried, crunchy, and basically everything you could want in a fair food.
Garlic Cream Cheese Wontons – I probably would not have even tried these (you can get these everywhere right?) but my friend from work got them and they were phenomenal! This is from new vendor Que Viet (who also had egg rolls on a stick!) These are the best wontons I’ve ever had!
Cookies – you can’t leave the fair without Sweet Martha’s cookies. This is the all-time classic and my favorite fair food that I will get again and again!
