4 TIPS FOR SHOPPING AT SHEIN
I get a lot of questions about Shein and whether or not I would recommend shopping there. If you are not familiar with Shein, it’s an affordable and trendy online retail site. They have thousands and thousands of SKUs and their site is updated daily. I don’t think I have ever seen anything on Shein that is more than $40.
Every season (every 3 months or so) I like to place a big order on Shein, and it’s very hit and miss. I typically keep a few things and send a few things back. I pick the best items to style and shoot for the blog. I only share items on the blog that I love and wear. If I didn’t like something, I wouldn’t share it.
Overall, I have had a great experience shopping at Shein, but I know you are probably still skeptical (that’s why you are looking at this post!) There are a few things to keep in mind before ordering that will make your experience much better. In this post I am sharing with you my tips when shopping at Shein. I think with these tips you will be comfortable ordering from Shein. If you go in with these expectations, I guarantee you will not be disappointed!
Pay Attention to Sizing
Sizing is very inconsistent, and tends to run small. I am usually a medium but I order a large from Shein. The measurements are listed in the description. Pay close attention to them and use a measuring tape if needed. If the size says ‘one size fits all’ I would be very skeptical! I have had luck with a few ‘one size fits all’ items (like this sweater), but it’s very hit and miss. When in doubt, size up!
Look at Customer Reviews (and Photos!)
I typically only order what I have seen on others. Either on other bloggers or from photos that customers have uploaded on the site. The Shein photos are typically just a photo of the item, not a person. If I can’t see the item on a person, I wouldn’t order it. Also, read the customer reviews! This helps to figure out if something runs small or is see-through, etc. I typically won’t order anything if there aren’t any reviews.
Shipping Takes A While
The regular shipping option takes a long time (2-3 weeks). It comes from overseas, so it takes a while to get here. I would be careful shopping here when you have a deadline in mind. This is not the place to shop for that last minute vacation or wedding item. The regular shipping option is free though, so if don’t mind the wait it’s totally worth it. You can pay for faster shipping, so just keep in mind your deadlines and how fast you want something. If you spend enough, you get free express shipping (so that’s what I usually do).
Not Designer Quality
The items are “copies” of designer items. They are NOT designer items, and certainly not designer quality. They are giving you the designer look at a low price point, so be happy that the shirt cost $20 and don’t stress that it’s not the same fabric as the designer one. You only paid $20! An example I noticed recently, this Shein dress is $31, and this Free People dress is $148. They look almost identical, but obviously the quality of the $31 item will not be the same as the $148.

🙂 I love Shein and your tips are great! I always pay the 1.99 too for shipping insurance so that I don’t have to pay for shipping to return it if the sizing is off!

I wanted to buy this dress that you have on but I always kept passing on it at the last minute. How is the fabric on this one? Is it a good fit? I’ve had hits and misses while shopping on this website but I’ve had more great value products that I got. Call me a cheapskate, but the comparison you did with the Shein item to that Free People is insane! Of course, there are some items that I would invest on such as shoes and jeans. But for trendy pieces, it wouldn’t hurt to give them a try!

I like the fabric, my only complaint is just that it wrinkles very easily (see photos!) The fit is really good for me, it’s pretty loose. I sized up because I was worried it would be too short and I like to try and wear most of what I get for work too. I could have ordered smaller though I think. That Free People dress! I had the Free People one in my cart somewhere else and I saw that dupe! Crazy!
